Professor Luk Van Langenhove has been Director since 1 October 2001 of the Comparative Regional Integration Studies Programme of the United Nations University (UNU-CRIS) in Bruges and teaches at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the College of Europe.

He was Deputy Secretary-General of the Belgian Federal Services for Scientific, Technical and Cultural Affairs, a post he occupied from May 1995 till September 2001. From 1992 till 1995, he was Deputy Chief of Cabinet of the Belgian Federal Minister of Science Policy. Before that he worked as a researcher and a lecturer at the VUB. Since 2006 he is Vice-President of the International Social Sciences Council.  Since July 2009 Luk Van Langenhove has been nominated by the Rector of the United Nations University, Professor Konrad Osterwalder, as his Representative at the UNU Office at UNESCO in Paris. 

Dr. Van Langenhove is the formal representative of UNU-CRIS in two European Commission FP6 funded projects: GARNET and SSH-FUTURES. He has published widely on comparative regional integration, social sciences theory, positioning theory and psychology.

He is the author of Innovating the Social Sciences (2007), De Benelux: Tijd voor een Wedergeboorte? (with Wouters et al., 2006), Positioning Theory (with Harré, 1998). He is also the editor of The EU as a Global Player: The Politics of Interregionalism (with Söderbaum, 2006), Global Politics of Regionalism: Theory and Practice (with Farrell and Hettne, 2005), Integrating Africa: Perspectives on Regional Integration and Development (with Van Ginkel and Court, 2003), Science, Technology and Social Change (with Aerts, Smets and Gurwith, 1999) and Rethinking Methods in Psychology (with Harré and Smith, 1995). His writings were published in Global Governance, Journal of European Integration, Journal of the Theory of Social Behaviour, Leisure Studies, Journal of Economic Psychology and Journal of Cross-cultural Psychology.
