Frank Mattheis
Mr. Mattheis is a doctoral candidate from the International Ph.D. Programme "Transnationalisation and Regionalisation" at the Research Academy Leipzig (Germany). He holds a European Master of Arts in Global Studies from the Universities of Vienna and Leipzig.
Previously, he completed a B.A. in International Business at the University of Paderborn (Germany). During his studies he spent three semesters abroad at the University Pablo de Olavide in Seville (Spain) and at Stellenbosch University (South Africa). His work experience includes stays at the Trade Department of the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) as well as the German Chamber of Commerce for MERCOSUR affairs.
His Ph.D. project is supported by the Free State of Saxony and focuses on comparing regionalisms in Southern Africa and South America. His main interests are the diffusion of regional governance norms and the reshaping of regional economic space by regionalisms such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR).
At UNU-CRIS, Frank Mattheis will collaborate with Philippe de Lombaerde for a period of 3 months on the issue of comparing MERCOSUR to other regionalisms. Moreover, he will work on analysing and editing the material acquired during his recent field work in Southern Africa.
