Biographical statement


Ms. Léonie Maes is the Personal Research Assistant to the Director of the United Nations University for Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) since November 2011. Therefore, she assists and collaborates with Prof. Luk Van Langenhove research-wise.

Léonie undergraduated in Political Science at the University of Namur, Belgium. She obtained a Master degree in Public Policy and Human Development at Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, where she specialised in Social policy design. She wrote her Master thesis about the role of regional organisations in implementing the R2P principle through a case study of the international intervention in Libya. From July to October 2011, Léonie was a research intern for the Peace and Security programme of UNU-CRIS. Her research interests include the role of regional organisations in the maintenance of global peace and security, the United Nations, and the debate around the R2P principle.
