Matthew Williams

Matthew Williams graduated from Nottingham University in 2006 with a Physical Geography BSc. In his final year he specialised in Sustainable Development, Coastal Management, Climate Change and Atmospheric Chemistry with the completion of a Research Dissertation entitled ‘Investigating Nitrogen Dioxide Pollution at Birmingham International Airport’.

After graduating he spent three months as a temporary environmental consultant in Birmingham, then six months in temporary admin roles for the West Mercia (Worcestershire) police force, before working in Iceland for six months as part of the European Voluntary Service (EVS). As part of the EVS placement he led international volunteers in fortnight-long environmental workcamps across Iceland for a company called SEEDS Iceland.  He returned to the UK for a number of months where he worked in voluntary education and trained in Inter-Cultural Awareness and European Citizenship. He then returned to Iceland where he trained the new EVS volunteers and coordinated new projects, including a youth exchange on Practical Sustainability.

In the past year he has been doing some more environmental consultancy, temporary intelligence and analysis roles with the police and since Christmas Matthew was working on waste education, reduction and recycling. In the future he hopes to work in environmental education and possibly work on a sustainability Ph.D.
